Bloomingdale, Illinois. Bloomingdale, 25 miles west of the Loop, has become
a hub of both business activity and residential growth. As a result of having
one of the lowest property tax rates in the county and no utility taxes, the
community's attractiveness to prospective homeowners has been increasing.
Housing. Single-family houses range from $120,000 to $750,000, with the newer
homes at the upper end of the scale. The 2000 average selling price was $251,000
with an average selling time of 71 days.
Most of the existing homes are 20 years old. Ranches and split-levels are
the predominant housing styles.
Townhouses range from the mid-$80,000s to $250,000. The recent addition of
The Bloomingdale Club, a clubhouse community of luxury townhouses, is an example
of what is new and available in this market.
Condominiums go for between $65,000 and $100,000. The 1998 average price for
townhouses and condominiums was $141,000.
Schools. Elementary students attend districts 13 and 15. Junior high students
go to district 13 or to Stratford Junior High School, in district 93. There
is also a parochial school nearby.
High school students attend Lake Park High School in district 108, or Glenbard
North High School, in district 87. The 1998 average composite ACT score at
Lake Park was 22.7. Glenbard North has an excellent sports program and an Advanced
Placement curriculum. The 1998 average composite ACT score for Glenbard North
was 22.4.
Transportation. The Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) is immediately east of Bloomingdale.
Drive time to the Loop is 35 minutes. O'Hare Airport is 30 minutes away, and
Midway Airport is a 45-minute drive. Bloomingdale residents may board Metra
trains in Medinah and Roselle for a 40-minute trip into the Loop. Bus service
is available.
