Edgewater Community Info
Edgewater, IL, Website
Edgewater, Illinois. Natural beauty, a wide range of housing
options, cultural diversity, and some of Chicago's most exciting views (including
full panoramas of the lakefront, downtown and the suburbs) mark Edgewater,
a patchwork of residential districts bounded by Foster, Devon, Ravenswood and
the lake.
The neighborhood has high-rises along Sheridan Road, mid- century courtyard
buildings along the Winthrop-Kenmore corridor, and tree-lined streets and
large houses west of Broadway. Today, Edgewater's convenient transportation,
lakefront location, gay-friendly community and 17 parks and beaches make
it attractive to a diversified group of Chicagoans.
The neighborhood beach has a fishing pier, “contemplation point”,
walking paths and flowers. Loyola University students and faculty live throughout
the area. Though thought by some to be a “sketchy” area, Edgewater
is a fine neighborhood to visit and live in.
